Juell Phillip Oakland was born on August 2, 1923, in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Lars and Maye (Anderson) Oakland. He was baptized on August 12, 1923, and later confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. He attended school at Clarkfield, Minnesota, and graduated with the Class of 1941. Juell and Gladys R. Knutson were married on November 5, 1949, at the home of her parents, Carl and Nellie Knutson. This marriage was blessed with two children: Paul and Jean. Juell and Gladys farmed until they moved to Clarkfield in 1966, where he was employed at the Clarkfield Elevator and Tri-Line. Juell was active in his church, Augustana Lutheran. He also served as a bus driver and was a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Juell entered the Clarkfield Care Center in July of 1994, where he passed away early Saturday morning, August 19, 2000, at the age of 77 years and 18 days. He is survived by his wife Gladys, of Clarkfield; his daughter Jean (and George) Murphy of Blue Earth, Minnesota; and grandchildren Jason and Kim Murphy of Blue Earth. He is also survived by sister Vivian Knutson; brother Leonard Oakland; brother Verdell Oakland; sister Marlys Londgren; brother Lars; and sister-in-law Phyllis Oakland; plus several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Paul; brothers Merlyn and Maurice; sister Shirley; plus brother-in-law Sidney Knutson; and sister-in-law Marlys Oakland. Blessed be his memory.
