Obituary

Judith Almira Hovdesven Miller was born to Albert and Amanda (Kise) Hovdesven on July 20, 1912, in Lyon County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Church and remained a member. Almira attended rural school in District 56 of Lyon County. She graduated from Cottonwood High School, Cottonwood, Minnesota, in 1930 and attended St. Cloud Teacher's College, St. Cloud, Minnesota. Almira taught rural school Districts 56 and 80 in Lyon County. Almira and Orley Miller were united in marriage on June 12, 1937, by Rev. H. J. Madland at the church parsonage. They farmed in Normania Township until they retired in 1972, and moved to Cottonwood. She was active in her church serving as Sunday School Teacher, WELCA, and choir member. She also served as church organist for many years. She was a member of the Cottonwood Senior Citizens. Almira entered the Clarkfield Care Center, Clarkfield, Minnesota, in January of 1997 and passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 1999, at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 14 days. She is survived by two sisters: Josie Haaland of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Inez (and husband Thurman) Kompelien of rural Cottonwood, Minnesota; and sister-in-law Theodora Miller of Clarkfield, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orley in 1989 and brother Floyd. Blessed be her memory.
