Obituary

Albin Nelson, Jr. April 2, 1945 ~ May 4, 2016 Albie Nelson, of Clarkfield, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 71. Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Clarkfield. Rev. Larry Wegener will officiate and interment will be at Fridhem Cemetery, Tyro Township,Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2016, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield, Minnesota, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Albin Godfred Nelson, Jr. was born April 2, 1945, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, the son of Albin and Svea (Sjoblom) Nelson. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1963. Albie served in the US Army 1966-68. He worked in the public works dept for the City of Clarkfield for 21 years. He then worked as a mechanical drafter for MTI in Montevideo from 1993-2006. He was on the Clarkfield police reserve and a volunteer firefighter. He was united in marriage with Patricia Kvistad January 7, 1977, in Watertown, South Dakota. Albie was a member of the Clarkfield American Legion for 46 years. He enjoyed animals of all kinds, cooking, fishing, wood working, camping and working on electronics. He sang in the Fiesta City Chorus and was a Boy Scout leader. He was very proud of his Swedish Heritage and of his family. He is survived by his wife, Pat; four children: Jay P. (Gwen) Nelson of Clara City, Minnesota, Melissa Freese of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Kristi (Rudy) Garcia of Dawson, Minnesota, and Matthew (Brandea) Nelson of Clara City, Minnesota; ten grandchildren: Tia Marie Lauve, Abby Lauve, Steffon Freese, Jessamy Freese, RJ Garcia, Quintin Garcia, Jameson Albie Garcia, Jaxon Nelson, Nikita Todd, and Liam Nelson; a brother, Charles Nelson of Clarkfield, Minnesota; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents and four sisters: Betty Jensen, Mary Sampson, Lorraine Olson, and Nikki Rinas.
