Josephine Charlotte Olson was born January 7, 1886, in Rosewood Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota. Her parents were Johannes Olson and Caroline Lund Olson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and attended country school and the Windom Institute in Montevideo, Minnesota. Josie was united in marriage to Elvin Thomton on January 21, 1911. Twin daughters were born to this union, Cleo of Minneapolis and Pheme (Mrs. Walter Westre) who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her husband (in 1931) and her son-in-law, Walter C. Westre of Clarkfield. Mrs. Thomton resided on the family farm until 1935 when she moved to Minneapolis and lived with her daughter, Cleo. She passed away there on Sunday evening, May 13, 1973. A practical nurse at one time and also a factory worker, Josie had been an invalid for the past eight years and was cared for by her daughter, Cleo. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Cleo, grandsons, Earl and Cesyl Westre, and great grandchildren, Peter, Ann, Michael and Jodi. Also surviving are three sisters: Clara (Mrs. Jens Arneson) of Montevideo, Hilda (Mrs. Clarence Olson) of Clarkfield, and Esther (Mrs. Halvor Haugen) of Montevideo; and three brothers: Elmer, Manley and Nordan Olson, all of Montevideo.
