Joseph Hoff, 73, died at his home January 9, 1997 after a long battle with cancer. His funeral was held Tuesday, January 14 at St. Lucas Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Kubly officiating. Organist was Ann Stensrud and vocalist, Debra Wilson. Interment was in the church cemetery. Military rites were by the Cottonwood American Legion. Joseph Eugene Hoff was born on September 10, 1923 in Swede Prairie Township to Jesse and Agnes (Hofteig) Hoff. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1941. On June 11, 1944 he married Charlotte Hanson. Joe entered the U.S. Army in January of 1945 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He received an honorable discharge on November 18, 1946. Following his military service, he and Charlotte farmed a short time and then operated the Spring Creek Store for five years. For about 40 years, he worked as a sales manager in the livestock feed industry. Before retiring in 1992, he was a field consultant for M&M Livestock Products Company. He was a member of St. Lucas Lutheran church where he had held several offices and was on various committees. He was treasurer for Vallers Township, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the Minnesota Trail Riders Association, and president of the Valley Riders Saddle Club. He had a special interest in the Camp Courage Wagon Train. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Kathryn (and Ken) Rothman of rural Milan; three sons: Joe (and Ann) and Robert (and Teresa) of Cottonwood and Don of Eagan; six grandchildren: Rebecca and Jonathan Rothman, Jesse and Jennifer Hoff and Angela and Kristen Hoff; one sister, Shirley (Mrs. David Javens) of Cottonwood; two brothers: Hubert of Clarkfield, and Harvey of Starbuck and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Earl and sister Stella Smith. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
