Obituary

Joseph Manford Hanson was born on June 26, 1902, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the fourth son of pioneer parents, Hans S. and Marie (Ness) Hanson. After completing his education in the local elementary school, he was employed on his father's farm until his father's retirement, after which he was employed by his older brother, Orville. On February 7, 1932, he was united in marriage to Lydia Tesch. They established their first home on a farm near Sherburn, Minnesota, and later moved to the Boyd community where they operated their farm. On August 19, 1951, Manford suffered his first heart attack. Due to his failing health, the family moved into Boyd where they operated a cafe for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Bertha, and two brothers, Orville of Cottonwood, Minnesota, and Henry of Benson, Minnesota. Death came suddenly to Manford on January 30, 1959, occuring while a patient at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 56 years. He is survived by his wife, Lydia; three daughters: Jean (Mrs. Kenneth Johnson) of Kasota, Minnesota, Luetta (Mrs. Robert Fousek) of Farmington, Minnesota, and Marlys (Mrs. Ronald Hennen) of Wabasso, Minnesota; one son, Manford Charles, and six grandchildren. Also left to mourn his passing are two brothers, Randalle of Madison, Minnesota, and Clifford of Aberdeen, South Dakota; two sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Louie Moe) and Hannah (Mrs. Lawrence Olson) both of Dawson, Minnesota, and a host of other relatives and friends.
