Obituary

Joseph Coubal of Clarkfield died on Friday, September 22, 2017 at his home at the age of 58.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Boyd.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Joseph Allen Coubal was born on May 28, 1959 in Clarkfield to Joseph and Ernestine (Daun) Coubal.  He was baptized at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Granite Falls and confirmed at Zion Lutheran in Boyd. Joe attended Clarkfield High School and continued education at the Willmar Vo-Tech following graduation.  On April 15, 1978, he was united in marriage to Elaine Loose at the Zion Lutheran Church.

Joe worked at Plews for 25 years before starting his career at the Kilowatt Community Center. He attended Zion Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Clarkfield City Council.  Joe was also the founder of the Clarkfield Museum after the school celebrated its 100th reunion.

Joe loved watching sports, and being involved with sports as well.  He especially enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.  He was a huge supporter of all of his children's athletics and coached Community Ed tee-ball and softball.  Joe absolutely adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.  He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and taking day trips with his wife.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Elaine; children: Steven Coubal of Clarkfield, Alisha (Jeremy) Banken of Kasson, Andy (Becky) Coubal of Andover, and Joey (friend Amy) Coubal of Brooklyn Park; sisters: Barb (Harold) Larson of Clarkfield, Mary Jo Haugerud of Montevideo, Bonnie (Mike) McCarthy of Stacy, and Debbie (Dave) Hedin of Maynard; and nine grandchildren: Amy Jo McNurlin, Mayson and Makyah Coubal, Carter and Brynlea Banken, and Jack, Ryland, Charlee, and Jase Coubal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mike and Louie; sister, Gerry Leenerts; nephew, Joseph Leenerts; great-niece, Eden Hedin; step-mother, Dorothy; brother-in-law, Glen Haugerud; infant sister, Cynthia; father-in-law, Arlen Loose; and brother-in-law, Steve Walters.
