Mrs. Elmer Olson, formerly of rural Minneota, Minnesota, passed away at the Granite Falls Manor, Granite Falls, Minnesota, on Thursday evening, August 8, 1968, at the age of 83 years. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, August 13, 1968, at the Swede Home Lutheran Church with Rev. C.M. Bagaason conducting the service. Jona Sigurethur Christianson was born in Minneota on March 26, 1885. Her parents, Sigubjorn (Ben) and Vilborg Christianson, were Icelandic emigrants. She was baptized and confirmed in the Icelandic Lutheran Church at Minneota. Prior to her marriage, she taught in the rural schools of Minnesota and North Dakota. On October 18, 1911, she was united in marriage to Elmer E. Olson of Swede Prairie Township. She was clerk of the school board of the former school district 90, served as Sunday School Superintendent in the Swede Home Church and was a member of the ladies aid. Mrs. Olson became partially disabled by a stroke in 1940 but continued her homemaking until 1960 at which time she and her husband moved to the nursing home in Clarkfield where they stayed four years. Following her husband's death in 1964, she lived with her daughter and family, then moved to the Granite Falls Manor in 1965. She is survived by two daughters: Louise (Mrs. Marlowe Freeburg) of rural Walnut Grove, Minnesota, and Mildred Olson, an associate scientist in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota; a granddaughter, Muriel Freeburg; a sister and several nieces and nephews.
