Johnny Western was born April 21, 1890, to John and Ingeborg (Andersen) Western on the Western homestead in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran Church of which he was a member until his death. Johnny farmed the Western farm for some years. He was united in marriage to Mabel Iverson on June 16, 1934, and shortly after moved to the Hanserud farm where they resided for fourteen years. Due to his wife's failing health, he discontinued farming and moved to the Iverson farm where Mabel passed away on January 21, 1952. He then purchased a home in Boyd, Minnesota, and resided here until his death, with the exception of a period of nine months when he was cared for by his nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Isaacs, while he recovered from a broken hip. He passed away suddenly, June 3, 1963, at the age of 73 years at his Boyd home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, his parents, five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by one sister, Julia, of Montevideo, Minnesota; two brothers: Albert and Melvin of Stanley, North Dakota; and ten nieces and nephews.
