Obituary

John Stensrud was born July 29, 1894, in rural Minneota, Minnesota, the oldest child of Oscar and Anna (Broughton) Stensrud. At an early age he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. John was married to Mary Elizabeth Burchard in Chinook, Montana, on September 15, 1919. He farmed most of his life except during World War II when he worked in the shipyards in California and later did custom combining in the Mid-Central States. He passed away June 24, 1978, at Weiner Memorial Hospital, Marshall, Minnesota, at the age of 83 years. He is survived by three children: Dorothy (Mrs. Walt Birner) of Canby, Minnesota, Orville Stensrud of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Cyril Stensrud of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Maybelle, of the Minneota Manor; and three brothers: Carl and Orvin of Clarkfield and Marrien of Minneota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 1972; a daughter, Ardell (Mrs. Albert Van Damme); three grandchildren; and three sisters: Mary (Mrs. Tolvin Anderson) of Fargo, North Dakota, Nettie (Mrs. Albert Pesek) of Canby, Minnesota, and Lena (Mrs. Christ Thorstenson) of Fargo, North Dakota.
