John Peder Stenson was born January 16, 1886, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Steen and Nellie (Johnson) Stenson. He was baptized and confirmed in Bergen Lutheran Church and attended grade school in Lisbon Township and then Lutheran Normal School at Madison. In 1910, he married Mabel Ness who passed away in 1918 during the flu epidemic. In 1921 he married Julia Arneson who passed away in 1974. They farmed near Boyd where he served on the town board and school boards in Ten Mile Lake Township, moving to Clarkfield in 1959. Mr. Stenson passed away June 7, 1978, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 92 years. Four children survive: Florence (Mrs. Roy Hofmann) of Boyd, Sheridan of Portsmouth, Virginia, Joan (Mrs. Harold Anderson) of Dawson, Minnesota, and Carol (Mrs. Gerald Ecklund) of Minneapolis; two sisters: Alma (Mrs. Gust Christopherson) of Clarkfield, Mathilda (Mrs. Dell Ekholm) of Montevideo, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mabel, second wife, Julia, one brother and three sisters.
