John E. Skaug was born in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on August 30, 1886, the son of Jorgen and Josephine (Casperson) Skaug. He was baptized by Rev. Lokensgaard and confirmed by Rev. O.C. Farseth. He spent most of his life in this community with the exception of the time he served in the Army overseas during World War I. The last four years he resided at the Madison Lutheran Home, Madison, Minnesota. He had been in ill health for several years and passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 1961, at Madison following several strokes. He is survived by three brothers: Emil and Melvin of Clarkfield and Oscar of Marshall, Minnesota; two sisters: Ema (Mrs. Myrian Flugstad) of Bird Island, Minnesota, and Athalia of Minneapolis. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers: August, Marvin, Thorval and Carl; and one sister, Lizzie. IN MEMORY OF JOHN E.
