John Nelious Severson was born June 29, 1914, in Kathryn, North Dakota, to Andrew J. and Ragnhild Mary (Sandbeck) Severson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Preston Lutheran Church near Kathryn, North Dakota. In the mid-thirties he came to the Clarkfield, Minnesota area. On December 28, 1940, he married Clara Berg of Clarkfield. They farmed south of Clarkfield until his retirement in 1977. He passed away January 5, 1983, at the Granite Falls Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota, after a lengthy illness at the age of 68. John is survived by his wife Clara; children: Marlene and Gene Jordon of Brainerd, Minnesota; Duane and Vonnie Severson and their daughters Deanna and Kari of Granite Falls; Diane and Don Setterstrom and their children Douglas, Darla and Danny of Superior, Wisconsin; Karen and Frank Denny and their children Bradley and Tania of Owatonna, Minnesota; and Steven Severson of Fort McClellan, Alabama; brothers: Ralph Severson of Nome, North Dakota; George and Opal Severson of Valley City, North Dakota; sister-in-law Olga Severson of Valley City, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Martin, Sophus and Clarence.
