Obituary

John Engwald Satre was born on January 29, 1879, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Hans J. and Anna (Hoye) Satre. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on February 12, 1879, by Rev. Fjeldstad of the Stony Run Lutheran Church in Stony Run Township. He was confirmed on July 8, 1894, by Rev. Carl J. Moen of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Clarkfield. John attended school at Clarkfield and received his diploma to practice veterinary medicine on November 25, 1913, from the Veterinary Science Association of Toronto, Canada. He served the community for fifty years as a veterinarian. On June 6, 1906, John Satre was united in marriage to Alma Johnson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, by Rev. A.J. Hulteng at Grand Forks. They spent a few years on the Satre farm (now occupied by the Waldemar Andersons) and then moved to a farm known as the Piersol farm in Swede Prairie Township. The family moved to Clarkfield and for many years lived in the home now occupied by the Jesse Willanders. In 1944 they purchased their present farm home and have resided there up to the present time. Five children were born to this union, namely Gladys (Mrs. Herman Kruse) of Worthington, Minnesota, Harland of Montevideo, Minnesota, Arnold, who passed away in 1948, Adeline (Mrs. William White) of Worthington, Minnesota, and Wayne who was killed in action in North Africa in 1943. Mr. Satre passed away February 18, 1962, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his wife, Alma; daughters, Gladys and Adeline; son, Harland; two daughters-in- law; two sons-in-law; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one sister, Julia (Mrs. Ingvald Anderson). Preceding him in death were his parents; his sons, Arnold and Wayne; one grandson; two brothers and two sisters. IN MEMORY OF JOHN E.
