IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Samuel
Marquardt
July 17, 1883 – December 19, 1957
John Sanmuel Marquardt was born on July 17, 1883, in Omro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Simon Marquardt and his wife, Caroline Weise Marquardt, who were charter members of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran congregation. On August 19 of the same year, he was received into the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, a covenant with the God of salvation in which he remained faithful unto death. In his youth he was diligently instructed in the principle parts of Christian truth, and in the presence of God and his fellow Christians, he renewed and confirmed the baptismal covenant he had made with the Lord. So comfortingly and reassuringly the Lord on that occasion spoke to our departed brother in his confirmation verse: "These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Now he, too, has overcome the world with his Savior and to him is granted the grace to sit with his Redeemer on His throne. Mr. Marquardt spent his entire lifetime in Omro Township and up until ten years ago lived and farmed in this same section of land on which the church stands. On November 22, 1910, Mr. Marquardt was joined in matrimony with Miss Ella Theide, the cememony being performed at St. John's Church. The Lord blessed their wedded life with two sons and two daughters: Herbert of Glenwood, Minnesota, Ruth (Mrs. Walter Pipke) of Omro Township, Della (Mrs. Carl Wiegers) of Omro Township, and George Marquardt of Montevideo, Minnesota. Mr. Marquardt had been in ill health for about two years, which became increasingly noticeable during this past year. He was hospitalized on November 19 and departed this life in peace and joy in his Lord on December 19, 1957, having tasted the salvation of the Lord by faith in God's Son Jesus Christ, and anxious to inherit the Kingdom prepared for him from the foundation of the world. He attained the age of 74 years, five months and two days. In addition to his faithful wife, who tended him with almost constant solicitude during his illness, and in addition to the four children, Mr. Marquardt is survived by ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Moreover, three brothers and seven sisters remain to mourn his departure. They are: Henry and Fred Marquardt of St. Paul, and Samuel Marquardt of Atwater, Minnesota, Mrs. Louise Stroschein of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Mrs. Ella Mickelson of Minneapolis, Mrs. William Reinke of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Mrs. Bertha Kloos of Taunton, Minnesota, Mrs. Lena Werner of Wood Lake, Minnesota, Mrs. Lily Adams of Gettysburg, South Dakota, and Mrs. Alma Erickson of Boyd, Minnesota. His presence will further be sorely missed by the brethren at St. John's Church. IN MEMORY OF JOHN S.
