John Leonard Falkum was born July 18, 1922, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to John T. and Frances (Johnson) Falkum. He attended public schools in the Clarkfield, Minnesota area and in 1944 entered the U.S. Army. He served with distinction in the Phillipines Theater. After discharge in 1946, he returned to farming near Clarkfield. In 1970, he moved to Boyd, Minnesota, where he served three years as Boyd City Policeman. He was an active member of the Clarkfield United Methodist Church, where he was Sunday School Superintendent and teacher for over 15 years. He had completed studies to become a lay speaker and became a recognized lay speaker this year. He recently spoke at a Gideon Society regional meeting. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 198 of Boyd. Leonard passed away on Friday, November 13, 1981, at the age of 59, at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Pratt, with whom he had made his home. Leonard is survived by his sister, Mrs. Violet Davis of Danvers, Massachusetts; brothers: Floyd and Donald of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three nieces, four nephews; one grand nephew; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
