John Herman Lachelt was born January 6, 1895, in rural Boyd, Minnesota, to William and Augusta (Loose) Lachelt. He was baptized on February 8, 1895, in his parents home by Pastor Henry Vetter and confirmed on April 12, 1908, by Pastor August Hillger at the Zion Lutheran Church of Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where he has been a faithful member all these years. John entered the U.S. Army in 1918 at the age of 23. He received a medical discharge after having the flu and pleurisy. He started farming on his uncle Herman's farm in Tyro Township in 1928. John was married to Elsie Neitzel on April 1, 1931. They bought his uncles farm in 1938 and farmed there until he retired in 1963 when they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. John has been a member of the Oien-Horgen American Legion Post #198 of Boyd, Minnesota for over 65 years and served as school board member of District 49 in Tyro Township for nine years. John passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center on Wednesday, May 2, 1990, at the age of 95. John leaves his wife, Elsie; three children, Harold and wife Kathleen of Brainerd, Minnesota, Janice and husband, Carroll Pagel of Benson, Minnesota, Marvin and wife Alene of Mt. Calm, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Otto of rural Clarkfield; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Gone before John were his parents; four brothers, Albert, William, Louis and Leo; and four sisters, Olga Bartz, Clara Werner, Lydia Galow and Louise Werth.
