Obituary

John Emil Josephson (August 27, 1916 ~ November 24, 2011) John was born on August 27, 1916, in the home of his grandfather, Arngrim Johnson in Minneota, Minnesota, to Steini and Winnie (Johnson) Josephson. He attended rural school until the age of 14 when he then attended and graduated from Boyd High School in the class of 1934. Following graduation, John farmed with his dad until 1939 when he went to attend Moorhead State College for Winter Quarter. The following fall he attended Normal Training at Canby Public School to become a school teacher. He taught for one year in a rural school near Porter, Minnesota. After teaching, John continued to farm with his father until he married Mary Ann Olien on September 5, 1943, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield, Minnesota. They immediately moved to their farm located northeast of Minneota where they lived and farmed with their family (son Richard born in 1951 and daughter, Karen born in 1963) for 57 years. In 1956 John went to work at the Yellow Medicine County ASCS office in Clarkfield, where he managed that office for the next 26 years. He retired from the ASCS office in 1982 but continued to work in the farming community as a farm mediator and real estate agent. In 2000, John and Mary Ann moved to Clarkfield where they lived until Mary Ann passed away in 2001. John was a resident of Brookside Manor in Montevideo since 2001 but still considered Clarkfield his home. He moved to Luther Haven in 2010. John was very active with the Boy Scouts, St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he and Mary Ann belonged, the Chamber of Commerce in Clarkfield and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Minneota/Canby for over 45 years. He enjoyed woodworking, music, old cars and spending time with his family. John passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Luther Haven at the age of 95 years, 2 months and 28 days. He was preceded in death by his mother, Winnie Julia Johnson Josephson (1942), father Arngrim Thorstaen (Steini) Josephson (1959), wife Mary Ann Olien Josephson (2001), brother and sister Jon and Joan Josephson (1918), brother-in-law Lawrence Solberg (2004), and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lyle (2000) and Inger Olien (2003).
