John D. Johnson was born June 27, 1892, to parents Hans O. Johnson and Jensine (Otterness) Johnson. He passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, on Thursday, December 29, 1960, at the age of 68 years, after a few days visit with his sisters and brothers in the local area. He was baptized by Rev. Thostenson and confirmed by Rev. John Salhus in the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. As a young boy he attended public school in Hazel Run Township and later worked on his father's farm until he was drafted into military service in February 1918. He served in the infantry in both France and Germany, and received his discharge in the fall of 1920. He then returned to his home and continued to work on the farm until WWII when he enlisted in the State Guard, serving at Duluth, Minnesota. After the war he was employed by the American Steel and Wire Company in Duluth until his retirement in in January, 1958. He was united in marriage to Jenny Thompson of Duluth on November 30, 1944. He is survived by his wife, Jenny; six stepdaughters: Mrs. Anne Peterson, Mrs. Myrtle Wilmot, Mrs. Theresa Mantay and Mrs. Emma Ramsli of Duluth, Minnesota, and Mrs. Marie Nelson of Austin, Minnesota; four stepsons: Norman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Edwin and George of California, Malcolm of Minneapolis; four brothers: Stewart and Guy of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Eddie of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Raymond of Hazel Run, Minnesota; three sisters, Thelma (Mrs. Sverre Idland), Gladys (Mrs. Steve Edmunds), and Hazel, all of Hazel Run; seven nephews and six nieces. Preceding him in death were his mother, father, stepmother and one sister, who died in infancy. IN MEMORY OF JOHN D.
