Obituary

John O. Kise was born in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, September 9, 1891, to Johan and Jorine (Nelson) Kise. He was baptized September 20, 1891, by Pastor Knut Thorstenson in St. Lucas Lutheran Church and confirmed by Rev. Romstad in Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood, Minnesota. He attended school in Cottonwood and Augustana College at Canton, South Dakota. On February 22, 1918, he was united in marriage to Carrie Brusven. To this union four sons were born. He was an active member of St. Lucas congregation and also served many years as clerk of Normania Township. "Johnny", as he was better known among his friends, was always extremely interested in historic events. His passing is mourned by his wife and sons, Giles of Madison, Minnesota, and John of Normania Township; eight grandchildren; one sister, Amanda (Mrs. Albert Hovdesven) of Clarkfield, Minnesota; three brothers: Oscar of Cottonwood, Joseph of Moorhead, Minnesota, and Axel of St. Paul; and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Alma and Clara; and brother, Niel; and two sons: Johnny and Alan. He passed away at the age of 65 years at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Tuesday evening, February 26, 1957, as a result of a heart attack following surgery. Blessed be his memory.
