John Gunlogson, age 93, died January 31, 1997, at the Clarkfield Care Center. John was born June 8, 1903, to John Senior and Gea (Hofteig) Gunlogson in Swede Prairie Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Westerheim Icelandic Lutheran Church. He graduated from Sweeney School of Automotive Mechanics in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1920. He returned home to the family farm and custom threshing operation where he pursued farming and mechanical work until retirement. He was a lifelong Master Mason of the Clarkfield Masonic Lodge. John and Estella Edwards, also of Swede Prairie Township were married June 17, 1931. They lived on the family farm until August 1995 when they moved to Brookside Manor in Montevideo. Then John moved to Clarkfield Care Center in July 1996. He served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Clarkfield Farmers Elevator. He enjoyed playing trumpet with the Hazel Run Band until it ceased to exist. He is survived by his wife Estella, four children and their families: John E. (and Jan) of Rochester, Minnesota, Richard (and Janice) of Willow, Alaska, Isabel (and Bob) Freer of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Michael (and Gloria) of Clarkfield; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Gunlogson of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. God bless your memory of John Gunlogson.
