John Gilbertson was born to Gulbran and Elisa Gulbrandson on November 12, 1876, in Honefoss, Norway, where he was baptized and confirmed. He emigrated to America in 1895, at the age of 18 and worked at various jobs until he started farming and resided at his home east of Boyd, Minnesota, until the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Ida Dahl of Boyd, on March 14, 1902. To this union six children were born: George, Erwin, Harry and Mrs. Gertie Stevens, all of Boyd, Arnold of Minneapolis and Alma (Mrs. Peder Eidem) of Marietta, Minnesota. He passed away on June 4, 1966, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 89 years. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ida, who passed away in 1950, and nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his six children; one sister, Mrs. Anna Husby, of Clarkfield; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
