John O. Ford was born January 9, 1886, at Bergen, Norway, to parents Steen and Martha (Larson) Johnson. He was baptized on February 7, 1886, and confirmed on September 21, 1901. John came to America at the age of 18 and resided at Waseca, Minnesota, where his brother Hans lived. Later, he came to Clarkfield, Minnesota to visit his cousin and accepted a position here for a short time, then worked in Minneapolis as a motorman on the streetcar line. He became ill and traveled to Montana to visit his three brothers where he found work. He returned to Minnesota and married Julia Christensen on November 30, 1910, at Augustana Lutheran Church at Clarkfield. They returned to Montana for some time and later, moved to Minneapolis to his former job. In 1915, they returned and started farming south of Clarkfield and lived in this community since that time. To this union seven children were born. He passed away at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, on December 22, 1970, at the age of 84 years. John is survived by his wife, Julia; his children: Haynes of Dawson, Minnesota, Lloyd of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, Roland of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Myrtle (Mrs. Christie Blank) of Mound, Minnesota, and Myra at home; five grandchildren; one brother, Hans; and a sister, Mrs. Kari Monson, both of Montana. Preceding him in death were two daughters: Inga in infancy and Evelyn at the age of 17; one granddaughter, Shirley; four brothers and one sister. On November 30, 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Ford quietly observed their 60th wedding anniversary. John was a faithful member of Spring Creek congregation, serving on the church council for a number of years.
