John Paul Fjerkenstad was born May 1, 1880, at Ostre Toten, Norway, the son of Peder and Maria (Hjeld) Fjerkenstad. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his native land. In 1903 he immigrated to America coming directly to Stoughton, Wisconsin. The following year he came to the Boyd, Minnesota community, where he has since resided. On December 26, 1909, he was united in marriage to Olga Grefsrud. Mr. Fjerkenstad passed away September 3, 1955, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 75 years. Surviving him are his wife, four daughters and five sons: Palmer of Dawson, Minnesota, Julian of Montevideo, Minnesota, Arlene (Mrs. Vergil Hegna) of Clarkfield, Margaret (Mrs. Albin Lukken, Ruby (Mrs. Arnold Wiegers), Ruth (Mrs. Arvin Hanson), Joseph, Ernest and Melbourne of Boyd, Minnesota. One child passed away in infancy. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother, Anton of Boyd, and two brothers and three sisters residing in Norway.
