Eischens
October 2, 1887 – October 26, 1966
John Michael Eischens was born on October 2, 1887, at Union Hill in Scott County, Minnesota, where he was also baptized. He attended school there and later at the St. Leo School. In 1898, he came with his parents, Michael and Mary (Unzen) Eischens to the St. Leo community where he has since resided. On February 3, 1909, he was united in marriage to Magdalen Baierl of St. Leo. To this union twelve children were born: Susan (Mrs. Martin Beck) of Taunton, Minnesota, Josephine (Mrs. Fred Troye) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Joe of Minneapolis, Genevieve (Mrs. Albert Jelen) of Canby, Minnesota, Florence (Mrs. Henry Braun) of St. Leo, Madlyn (Mrs. Bill Kapolczynski) of New Ulm, Minnesota, Clarence, Herman on the home place with his mother, Bernice (Mrs. Eugene Roles), Lillian (Mrs. Sylvester Sanow) all of Minneota, Minnesota, Mervyn of St. Leo and Sylverius of Boyd, Minnesota. The last couple of winters, Mr. Eischens and his wife have spent in the south with other members of the family, returning here in the spring. "J.M." served 40 years on the Consumers Co-op Oil Company Board of Directors and on the Western Co-op Transport Association. In June of 1957 he retired after serving several years on the Clarkfield Farmers Elevator Board. He also served a number of years on the Burton Township board. He helped organize the St. Leo Fire Insurance Company and served on its board and also treasurer for a period. He was active on the Yellow Medicine County Township Board Association and his school board. Mr. Eischens became ill Sunday evening and on Monday entered the Clarkfield Hospital. He passed away suddenly, Wednesday evening, October 26, 1966, having reached the age of 79 years. He will be greatly missed by his wife and twelve children and families including 67 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; two sisters and a brother: Mrs. Kate Skoypek of St. Paul, Mrs. Rose Mamer and Pete Eishens of Canby, Minnesota, and a large number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were four brothers and a sister: Valentine (Mrs. Peter Nosbusch), Anton, Bernard and Henry Eischens. IN LOVING MEMORY OF J. M.
