John E. Johnson, son of Andrew and Anna Johnson, was born in Gran, Hadeland, Norway, May 30, 1876. He received the sacrament of baptism in Gran, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith while living as a youth in Faribault County, Minesota, where the family made its home after coming to America in 1884. Twelve years later the family moved to Yellow Medicine County, locating near Clarkfield. On December 31, 1902, John Johnson was untied in marriage to Emma Satre. To this union two children were born, a son, Arthur and a daughter, Arla. Mr. Johnson has been a resident of the Clarkfield community most of his adult life, and was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church congregation. He had been in failing health for the past several months, and a week prior to his death had gone to stay in the Clarkfield Nursing Home. His condition became grave, and he was moved to the Clarkfield Community Hospital, where he passed away July 20, 1961, at the age of 85 years. Preceding him in death were his wife, who passed away in October, 1942, and his daughter, Arla, in March, 1946. He is survived by his son, Arthur, several nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.
