John Drange was born in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on July 28, 1890, to Kristen E. and Malene (Haugland) Drange. He was baptized in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church in August, 1890, by the Rev. Carl J. Moen and was confirmed in the same church by the Rev. J.B. Reinertson on Palm Sunday in 1905. He attended common schools in Yellow Medicine and Lac qui Parle Counties. He did farm work and steam engineering until the age of 30, when he entered the employment of a lumber yard in Boyd, Minnesota. He continued in the lumber yard work in various yards, all with the same owners, serving the last 27 years in the Hazel Run yard, retiring on May 1, 1958. On October 19, 1924, he was united in marriage to Marit Johnson at her parental home in the township of Baxter, Lac qui Parle County, north of Boyd. Rev. G.S. Froiland officiated. They lived in Dawson, Minnesota, from 1927 to the fall of 1930, when they moved to Hazel Run. Mr. Drange was a resident of the Hazel Run community the past forty years. To this union, four children were born, three of whom have passed away: Julian in early infancy in 1925, Marjorie in 1955, and Julian in 1957. One son, Allen, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, survives along with daughter-in-law, Ethel; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mary, of Williston, North Dakota. Mr. Drange passed away Friday, July 2, 1971, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 80 years. His wife preceded him in death on November 21, 1964. Also preceding him were his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
