John Bye was born on February 11, 1875, in Meldal, Norway, the son of John and Beret Bye. He immigrated to America in 1886 and spent five years in Menominie, Wisconsin, before coming to Boyd, Minnesota, in 1891. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On November 4, 1918, he was married to Gyda Ree, who passed away January 15, 1949. He worked in the field of general merchandising until his retirement a few years ago. Because of failing health, John spent the past two years and three months in the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital where he passed away Sunday, November 27, 1966, at the age of 91 years. He leaves to mourn nine nieces and two nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
