John Andrew Brecke was born in Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota, on December 29, 1871, and was baptized there. He came with his parents to Yellow Medicine County in 1879 and was confirmed in 1885. He was united in marriage to Gunda Olava Gilbertson on October 23, 1892. Mr. Brecke moved to Swede Prairie Township in 1917 and lived there until about four years ago when he went to the Old People's Home in Madison, Minnesota. He became a member of the Swede Home Church November 1, 1931. Deceased was taken to the hospital at Madison on October 24 and died on November 30, 1952, having reached the age of 80 years, 11 months and one day. Mrs. Brecke passed away March 15, 1933. A son, Carl, died in 1918 and a daughter died in infancy. Surviving are five children: Edgar of Montevideo, Minnesota, Esther (Mrs. Selmer Olson) of Maple Plain, Minnesota, Arnold of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jeanette (Mrs. Harry Hanson) of Clarkfield and Evelyn (Mrs. Walfred Anderson) of Granite Falls, Minnesota; also eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one brother, Martin of Granite Falls, Minnesota; nieces and nephews.
