John Bengtson was born February 21, 1874, in Vik Skaine, Sweden, the son of Bengt and Elna Jonason. In the year 1898 he was married to Karna Mortenson. To this union two children were born. He came to America in the year 1902 and has lived here since, except for two years which were spent in his Sweden, 1921-1923. His nephew, Edwin Bengtson came back with the family and made his home with them until Mrs. Bengtson passed away in 1934. Mr. Bengtson always enjoyed wonderful health and strength until in the fall of 1953 when he came to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Betty and John Vold. Early in 1955, he suffered a slight stroke which weakened him considerably. In September of the same year, he was taken sick and has been bedridden since with several strokes. On September 26, 1957, he passed away at the age of 83 years, seven months and five days. He leaves to mourn his passing, two children, Alfred of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Betty (Mrs. John Vold) of Hazel Run; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one brother, Per, and one sister, Tilda in Sweden, and one brother, Oscar of Perth, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karna, in 1934; his nephew, Edwin in 1955; his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Blessed be his memory.
