Johanne Vik Jorgenson was born in Stryn, Nordfjord, Norway, April 17, 1867, and is the last of a family of seven sisters. There were Ingeborg, Helena, Senava, Marie, Nellie and Olena. At the age of 23, Johanne came to America and made her first stop at the home of her uncle, Arne Iverson. She worked in homes in the community as did most of the young immigrants at that time. Following the loss of her husbands, Olai Nelson and Ramus Anderson, Johanne took her young son, Arden, and returned to her native land for a visit. On August 20, 1902, Johanne married Mathias Jorgenson, who farmed on the west edge of Clarkfield. Along with her duties as wife, she mothered George, Martha, Martin and Severin, along with Arden. Only George, now of Park Rapids, and Martin and Arden of Clarkfield survive. Four children were born to this union, namely Mildred (Mrs. Beldin) of Petosky, Michigan, Judith (Mrs. Al Hanson) of Faribault, Minnesota, Erling of Clarkfield, and Bennie, who passed away in June, 1939, shortly before the father died on August 9, 1939. Mrs. Jorgenson was a charter member of the Clarkfield Lutheran ladies aid organized back at the turn of the century, and a steadfast member of the same congregation. Although her health has been gradually declining, she had been up and around until Sunday when she took seriously ill about 10 p.m. and passed away about four hours later, January 11, 1960, at 92 years of age, at Faribault, Minnesota. Surviving beside her children are 36 grandchildren and a number of great and great great grandchildren.
