Obituary

Johanna Iverson was born at Maurset, Nordfjord, Norway, March 3, 1882, the daughter of Arne and Johanna Iverson. As a child she came to this country in 1885 with her parents and settled in Clarkfield where her father was section foreman until his death. She spent her youth and girlhood active in all affairs of her church and community. On December 9, 1924, she was united in marriage to Matt Quist, a Clarkfield business man for many years. They spent 12 years in their home in Clarkfield before going to Tacoma, Washington, after Mr. Quist's retirement. Johanna as she was lovingly called by her friends continued her active life in community and church affairs and became endeared by all in that new place. In the fall of 1953 her health began to fail and in spite of the best medical attention she became worse and longed for hometown family and old friends. With the help of her husband and sister, Annie, she returned to Clarkfield in May 1953. After spending some time in Clarkfield, they went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Knute Quistad near Echo where they stayed for eleven weeks and were finally accepted at the Masonic Home in Minneapolis, where Mrs. Quist passed away March 13, 1954. With her at the end were a sister and an old friend. Leaving to mourn her loss are her husband; one brother, Mr. Iver Arneson of Clarkfield; four sisters: Annie, Josie (Mrs. Leo LeGros) and Nettie (Mrs. Ray Love), all of Clarkfield, and Mabel (Mrs. Elmer Larson) of Minneapolis; besides nieces, nephews and a host of friends. "Jo" as she was familiarly known to all was of a cheery, sunny disposition with a ready smile and a helping hand for everyone, in fact she was universally loved and respected by all with whom she came in contact.
