Obituary

Jesse E. Hoff, the son of Engebret and Bertha (Nielson) Hoff, was born near Grand Meadow, Minnesota, on February 12, 1890. He was baptized and confirmed there in the Bear Creek Lutheran Church, and attended rural school. In 1907, the family moved from Mower County to a farm in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, and it was on this farm that Jesse spent the greatest part of his life. He has been a member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church since 1908. On January 14, 1914, Jesse and Agnes Hofteig of Minneota, Minnesota, were united in marriage by Rev. Storaasli in Clarkfield. To this union six childen were born. The Hoffs lived on the home farm for most of their married life, with the exception of a few years when they farmed in Swede Prairie Township and a short time when they lived in Minneota. In the spring of 1975, due to ill health, Agnes became a resident of the Minneota Manor and in September of that year Jesse moved to the David Javens farm near Cottonwood, Minnesota, where he lived in his mobile home until the time of his death. On January 14, 1979, Jesse and Agnes observed their 65th wedding anniversary. He passed away early Sunday morning, March 18, 1979, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 89 years. Besides his wife, Agnes, survivors include three sons: Hubert of Clarkfield, Joe of Cottonwood and Harvey of Granite Falls; two daughters: Stella (Mrs. Alan Smith) and Shirley (Mrs. David Javens), both of Cottonwood; 25 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ella Rowberg; a nephew and a niece. He was preceded in death by a son, Earl; his parents; a brother, Martin and a sister, Mabel. IN MEMORY OF JESSE E.
