Jerry Allen Nilson, 43, of Boyd, passed away on May 12, 1995 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, Minnesota. Jerry was born on December 21, 1951 to Arthur H. and Helen S. (Steffenson) Nilson in Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was baptized on November 28, 1952 at the Watson Lutheran Church and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in May of 1966 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd. He graduated from the Boyd High School in 1969. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1972. During this time he proudly served his country in Vietnam, receiving a purple heart, a bronze medal and a Vietnam campaign medal. He recently received a pin for 100 hours of volunteer work at the V. A. Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. On September 3, 1982 Jerry and Julie Doreen Winge were united in marriage. To this union one son, Kevin Michael was born. Jerry was a 1991 graduate of Southwest State University majoring in Business Administration and Political Science. Jerry also had many hobbies including football and baseball card collecting, pen and coin collecting, and reading. Jerry is survived by his wife Julie, his son Kevin, and his mother Helen Johnson of Boyd; six sisters: Kaye Tanhoff (Barry) of Montevideo, Gayle Nilson/Burrow (Ralph) of Vancouver, Washington, Janice Nilson (Marlow) of Boyd, Patty Booker (Ken) of New Ulm, Minnesota, Barb Nilson/Colby (Rick) of Vancouver, Washington, Sue Wilkes (Stan) of LaPorte, Colorado; also his father-in-law Gordy Winge of Boyd; sisters-in-law: Ellen Dames (Dan) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Gail Long (Dennis) of Canby, Neil Winge of Boyd, Bruce Winge of Boyd; and 19 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews; and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, uncle, and mother-in-law. Jerry's kindness and love for his family will be greatly missed. Blessed be his memory.
