March 22, 1913 – July 7, 1999
Jennings Alton Agre was born March 22, 1913, in Ten Mile Lake Township of Lac qui Parle, County, Minnesota, to Joseph and Anna (Estling) Agre. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. He attended rural schools. Jennings lived and farmed for many years with Uncle Richard Agre, west of Boyd, Minnesota, and helped raise Uncle Richard's three daughters: Ruby, Arlene, and Dorothy. In September of 1956 he married Palma (Fremo) Helgeson at the home of her sister Northeast of Montevideo, Minnesota. With this union, he was blessed with a set of 12 year old twin step-sons. They were his pride and joy. Jennings, Palma and family farmed west of Clarkfield, Minnesota, for seven years. In 1964, they moved to Palma's home place Northeast of Boyd, and continued farming until his retirement in 1975. In December of 1997, Jennings moved to Brookside Manor in Montevideo. On July 7, 1999 he became a resident of Madison Lutheran Home and remained there until his death on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, after a battle with bone cancer. Jennings enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching the Minnesota Twins, and playing cards at the Boyd Senior Citizens Center. He was also an active member of the Son's of Norway over the years and held several jobs on church boards. He is survived by his wife Palma of the Madison Lutheran Home, Madison, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Carleen Helgeson; and grandson, John J. Helgeson. He is also survived by sister Alvina (Dolly) Baker of New Richmond, Wisconsin; brother Art of Montevideo; and brother-in-law Ed Moseng of Montevideo; and 13 nieces and nephews.
