Jean Mitchell was born on July 30, 1932, at the University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, to parents Ellmond and Olive (Ross) Johnson of Granite Falls, MN, where she grew up and attended public school. On February 20, 1949, Jean was united in marriage to Delbert Mitchell, also of Granite Falls, but formerly from South Dakota. The couple started farming in 1949 in Stony Run Township and remained there through their 59 years of marriage. Jean's interests included helping her husband farm, gardening, and sewing. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and had an active interest in alternative healthcare—researching the use of vitamins and herbal medicine.

Jean passed away on Thursday, March 13th, 2025, at the age of 92 at Luther Haven in Montevideo. She is survived by her children, Richard (Linda) Mitchell of Montevideo, Mark (Lorrie) Mitchell of Sioux Falls, SD, and Brenda (Dan) Oleson of Montevideo; 5 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert; sister, Luella Skjefte-Whittet, and brother, George Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 at 12 PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Montevideo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the start of the service at 11 AM at the church. Interment to follow in Doncaster Cemetery, rural Granite Falls.
