James Stroup, son of Lloyd and Etta (Tilton) Stroup, was born August 20, 1891, in Boone County, Iowa. On February 18, 1914, he married Verva Hemm. To this union three children were born: Ruby Solberg of Portland, Oregon, Jean Cedarholm of Edina, Minnesota, and Keith Stroup, who owns the home farm at Clarkfield. Besides his wife and children, survivors include nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A weed inspector for Tyro Township for several years, Mr. Stroup had farmed in the Clarkfield area since 1916. Since retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Stroup have resided in Clarkfield. He passed away July 30, 1977, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota. Preceding him in death were his parents and one grandchild.
