James Virgil Leon Erickson was born on April 1, 1914, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Nicolai and Selma (Johnson) Erickson. He was baptized on April 28, 1914, by Rev. Carl L. Sholander and confirmed on September 9, 1928, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Brook Park, Minnesota, by Pastor Stillof Palm. He was united in marriage to Alvilda Anderson on June 8, 1935, in Watertown, South Dakota, and to this union were born four children. Virgil grew to young manhood in Brook Park then came to Boyd, Minnesota, where he worked in farming and construction. He was city maintenance man and police officer of Boyd for 13 years and served as custodian of the Trinity Lutheran Church for 25 years. He was also on several different committies in Boyd. Virgil passed away unexpectedly at the Dawson Hospital, Dawson, Minnesota, on April 28, at the age of 66 years and 27 days. He is survived by his wife, Alvilda; two sons: Dennis of Jordon, Montana, and Vincent of Boyd; two daughters: Carol (Mrs. Larry Strand) of Boyd and Anita (Mrs. Gerald Hahn) of Boyd; 11 grandchildren: Lisa and Jeffery Erickson, Dawn, Wayne, Bradley, Brian, Darwin, Jim and Missy Strand, Chad and Carin Hahn; two brothers: Glen of Hutchinson, Minnesota, and Elmer of St. Paul, Minnesota; five sisters: Joyce (Mrs. Carl Karg) and Gladys (Mrs. Charles Palkrabek) of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Leona (Mrs. Alvin Johnson) of Isle, Minnesota, Minnie (Mrs. William Wicker) of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Mrs. Roy Radke of Lester Prairie, Minnesota He was preceded in death by his parents.
