Obituary

James Halverson was born in Hennepin County, Minnesota, on December 20, 1947. He was baptized on his birthday in Hennepin County by Rev. Martin Trygstad. Jim grew up in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where his parents Ludwig and Thora (Morken) Halverson had a Country Store. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1965 and thoroughly enjoyed returning for the High School 100th Reunion in 2005. After serving his Country in the United States Army, he attended two years of Post High School learning before beginning his long time employment with Control Data in Rapid City, Redwood Falls, and Minneapolis. He later worked for Seagate and other electronic firms. Jim took great joy in traveling in his leisure time. In company with his mother, aunt, and cousin he visited the Morken relatives in Norway in 1979. In later years, together with family and cousins from Cottonwood and Norway, he drove to Canada for a tri-country Morken reunion. For several years his vacation time was spent going by car or plane to car races all over the country. NASCAR was special for him. The last years, he filled his days on his home computer updating genealogy records and filling bird feeders for his beloved flock of Cardinals. He was a member of Elvidal #509, Sons of Norway, and St. Lucas Church. Jim passed away at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota, on Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at the age of 58 years, 8 months, and 24 days. He is survived by his Aunt Genevieve Morken and many cousins including those in Canada and Norway. He was preceded in death by his parents.
