Iona was born on a farm in Charles Mix County, Lake Andes, South Dakota, on April 12, 1916, to Michael and Hannah (Nelson) Coover. She graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1934 and moved with her family to Minnesota in 1937. On July 5, 1939, lona was united in marriage to Winfred Peterson. They farmed in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where she continued to live after the death of her husband in 1977. Iona was a member of Swede Home Church where she took an active role having served as Sunday School teacher and LCW officer. She has been employed at Marshall Produce, a cook at Green Door Supper Club, and served as a township election judge for several years. Iona enjoyed cooking and baking, crocheting, gardening and any kind of card game. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was always ready and willing to help others. Attending ball games and other activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought lona great pleasure. Iona is survived by Carol (Harlan) Moseng of Boyd, Minnesota, Linda (Rick) Kohn of Harrington, Illinois, LeRoy Peterson of Watertown, South Dakota, and Dale Peterson of Clarkfield, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Brad Moseng, Brenda (Frank) Vanderveur, Bruce Moseng, Brent Moseng, Donny Peterson, Michelle Peterson, and Ricky Peterson; six great grandchildren: Jami, Carli, Brook and Laura Moseng, Ashley and Laura Vanderveur; sister Gladys (Joe) Josefson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and sister-in-law Pearl (Quinton) Coover of Minneota. Iona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Winfred; sisters: Irene Young, Harriet Thostenson, Ruth Coover and brother Quinton Coover. Iona will be sadly missed by friends and family. Blessed be her memory.
