Iola N. Sharkey, 76, of Montevideo, Minnesota, formerly of the Clarkfield, Minnesota area, died Wednesday, January 1, 1986, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 1986, at the United Methodist Church of Clarkfield with Pastors Wayne Shelton and Harris Halstead officiating. Final Resting Place is the Clarkfield City Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was born June 7, 1909, in Lake City, Iowa, to Richard and Geneva (King) Pierce. After graduating from Lake City she taught school. Iola was united in marriage to Laurence Sharkey in Iowa at the Little Brown Church in The Vale. To this union three children were born, Larry, Vada and Linda. The Sharkeys spent many years farming in Iowa and moved to the Clarkfield area in 1948. They lived there until moving to the Brookside Manor in Montevideo in 1985. During the past several years they traveled extensively around the United States and resided in Mesa, Arizona during the winter months. Iola was active in the church including numerous committees, a homemaker's group and study groups. Special music at the services was provided by Mrs. Virginia Hagg. Mrs. Bernice Forsberg was the organist. Casket Bearers were her grandchildren and their spouses, Michael Sharkey, David and Roxanne Sharkey, Farrah Sharkey, Lance Sharkey, Gregg and Mary Birhanzl, Karin and Ron Koenen, Karla Brinhanzl, Gary Woratschka and Gina Woratschka. She is survived by her husband Laurence of Montevideo; and three children, Larry of Raymond, Minnesota, Vada (Mrs. Lowell) Birhanzl of Montevideo and Linda Woratschka of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Berniece Gregg of Lake City, Iowa.
