IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ingvald Helmer
Appelwick
January 30, 1891 – February 19, 1961
Ingvald Helmer Appelwick was born January 30, 1891, on a farm near Elmore, Minnesota, the son of Elling and Elisa (Helgeson) Appelwick. After living there a short time, the family moved to a farm southwest of Clarkfield where he spent his boyhood days. In 1917, he started in business in Clarkfield. This was interrupted by his Army service during World War I. He carried on a garage business, along with the sale of automobiles, in the Motor Inn Garage, across from Glenn's Ford Sales. Upon his discharge from service, he returned to his automobile business. This was continued until 1932 when he entered the oil business. He remained active in this until his retirement on February 1, 1956. He was united in marriage on August 16, 1922, to Hannah B. Strand of Mankato, Minnesota, and they have resided in Clarkfield all of their married life. Ingvald was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church for over forty years. His interests in the community were many, having served six years on the village council, eight years on the hospital board, and seven years as church treasurer, among other duties of public trust. Mr. Appelwick entered Clarkfield Memorial Hospital on December 23, 1961, after suffering a severe stroke. He remained hospitalized until two weeks ago when he entered Sioux Falls Veteran's Hospital for further treatment. After suffering another stroke, he passed away February 19, 1961, at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his wife, Hannah; son, Joe; daughter-in-law, Doris and grandson, Glen Alan, all of whom reside in Clarkfield; also two brothers, Harry Appelwick of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Monrad Appelwick of Sauk Centre, Minnesosta; two sisters, Ellen (Mrs. Leonard Nelson) of Willmar, Minnesota, and Emma (Mrs. Victor Svendson) of Tyler, Minnesota; and a host of nieces and nephews.
