IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ingine Lynner
Meves
September 9, 1885 – May 30, 1970
Ingine Lynner Meves was born September 9, 1885, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, of the parents, Jens and Ingeborg (Rognstad) Lynner and was confirmed by Rev. O.C. Farseth in 1900. She attended Clarkfield schools and graduated from Windom Institute, Montevideo, Minnesota, after which she taught rural schools in the Clarkfield area. She became the first licensed woman mortician in Minnesota in 1904 and at the time of her death had held her license the longest of any Minnesota woman mortician. Her education was continued at the University of Minnesota where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1915. She taught school at Marietta, Clarkfield and North Branch. In 1929 she was married to Alfred F. Meves at Central Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, and they were in business in Albert Lea and Minneapolis until his death in 1949. His children from a former marriage, Bernice (Mrs. Norris Garrett) and Earl, survive, as does a grandson, Richard Meves. During her many years in Clarkfield, she assisted her father and brother, John, at the J.H. Lynner Co. and was very active in church, Sunday school and the Willing Workers, having been instrumental in its organization and served as its first president. She also participated in service organizations in the community and was the first president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Clarkfield. Mrs. Meves re-established her residence here in 1963. She passed away May 30, 1970, at the Sausele Nursing Home of Montevideo, Minnesota, at the age of 84 years. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ida Josephine, in 1900, her mother in 1939, her father and her husband in 1949, and her brother, Christian, in 1959. She is survived by two brothers, John and Ingval, and their wives, all of Clarkfield, as well as eight nieces and nephews: Curtis, James and Jack Lynner, and Myra (Mrs. Gordon Peterson) of Clarkfield, Marian (Mrs. Bob Nord) of St. Louis, Missouri, Margaret (Mrs. Bob Gordon) of Willmar, Minnesota, Ed Lynner of Montreal, Canada, and Dr. Bob Lynner of Akron, Ohio; and 25 grand nieces and grand nephews; her stepchildren and step-grandson.
