Inga Marie Erickson was born May 4, 1903, in Vallers Township in Lyon County, Minnesota, to Sever and Gjertrude Broughton Erickson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. She attended country school. On July 24, 1922, she was united in marriage to Anton O. Broughton at the church parsonage at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. To their union a daughter was born on August 8, 1929, Helen Georgia, who died three days later. In 1941 her niece Joyce came to live with her and was raised by Inga and Anton. Inga lived her entire life on farms west of Cottonwood until three months ago when she became a resident at the Clarkfield Care Center. She enjoyed cooking, baking, kids, cats, horses, and her dog, Rocky. On January 8, 1992, Inga Broughton died at Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. She attained the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 2 days. She is survived by a brother Selmer Erickson of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; sister-in-law Cora Erickson of Cottonwood, Minnesota; and many very special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Anton in 1975; her infant daughter; her parents; four brothers, Knute, Harry, Marvin, and infant Garfield; and two sisters-in-law, Marta and Amanda.
