Mrs. Inez (Gjervold) Hoiland, 79, died October 13, 1987, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home of Balaton, Minnesota. Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 16, 1987, from Christ Lutheran Church, Cottonwood, Minnesota, with Pastor Arthur W. Holmes officiating. Organist was Mrs. Gwen Arneson and soloist was Mr. Curt Dahl. Casket Bearers were Roland Boehne, Floyd Hovdesven, Orville Kompelien, Orville Michaelson, Bob Molstad and Erling Mossige. Final Resting Place is Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Cottonwood, Minnesota. She was born July 30, 1908 at Lake Wilson, Minnesota, the daughter of Gudmond and Lena (Thorvilson) Gjervold. She was baptized on September 6, 1908, at Ellsborough Lutheran Church of Lake Wilson. She moved with her family to a farm west of Cottonwood at the age of three. She was confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church of Normania Township on July 23, 1922. She attended rural school in Vallers Township District 56 and 99, Lyon County, Minnesota, graduating from high school in Marshall, Minnesota, in 1927. She then went on to attend Mankato State College before beginning her teaching career. On April 15, 1946, she married Myron G. Hoiland at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hopkins, Minnesota. They lived in Marshall for eight years and in 1954 moved to his home farm north of Marshall. After retiring on the farm for two years they moved to Cottonwood in the fall of 1975. She was active with gardening and raising flowers and was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed having her family and grandchildren visit. She is survived by her husband, Myron of Cottonwood; son James and wife, Margaret and grandchildren, Holly and Ross of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and brothers, Art Gjervold of Moorhead, Minnesota and Albert Gjervold of Lake San Marcus, California. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ada Kelm, Tilda Reishus and May Gjervold; and three brothers, Oscar, Morris and William Gjervold.
