IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ida Marie
(Stevens) Brown
July 29, 1880
Ida Marie Brown was born July 29, 1880, one of the thirteen children of Jens and Anna (Barnes) Stevens, on a farm in Yellow Medicine County located west of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. She clerked in the store in Hanley Falls, owned by her sister and husband. On January 18, 1911, she was united in marriage to Dan Brown. For a short time, the couple lived on a farm about three milles north of Hanley Falls and then moved nearer the village on the farm where they resided all their active years. Mrs. Brown was active in church work and the Study Club as well as other community activities. She was a past matron of Florence Chapter 117 of the Order of the Eastern Star and officiated as worthy matron the night the Clarkfield Chapter was organized. Dan and Ida had one daughter, Lois (Mrs. Harvey Vang) of Litchfield. Then their generosity and love for others was displayed when they took into their home their five-year-old niece, Janet Stevens Solum, now of St. Paul. Dan passed away in 1956 and then for a period of time, Mrs. Brown resided at Litchfield with her daughter. The past five years she has made her residence at the Madison Lutheran Home. She was up and about, never being confined to her bed. Saturday morning, she had been downstairs for breakfast and was walking across the hall, when she was stricken. Ida's passing leaves only one member in the Stevens family. Her sister, Clara Slette, lives at Granite Falls. The 11 brothers and sisters, who preceded her in death, along with her parents, included the following: Rebekka, Ella, Amanda, Mabel, Pete, Bennie, Albert, Johnny, Edgar and two sisters in infancy, Tilla and Mabel. Left to mourn her departure are her daughter and husband, Lois and Harvey Vang of Litchfield and their four children: Dianne, a lieutenant in the service stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Nancy of St. Olaf, Bruce of the Philips Exeter Academy at Exeter, New Hampshire, and Marcia in the sixth grade of the Litchfield Public Schools. Also surviving are her niece and three children: Patricia, Jeff and Bonnie, all of St. Paul. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
