Ida Marie Nelson was born on October 11, 1894, in the township of Lund, Douglas County, near Evansville, Minnesota. She was sixth in a family of ten children of Nels A. and Anna (Erickson) Lang. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of the church. She grew to young womanhood in her home community, attended rural school and then worked as a clerk. On August 4, 1917, she married J. William Nelson, who attended the same school and church as she did. Following his enlistment in World War I, she worked in the cities near his camp. They were briefly engaged in farming, then moved to Minneapolis, then Appleton and in 1930 came to Clarkfield where he served on the faculty. Ida was a faithful member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, the LCW, Hospital Auxiliary and the Eastern Star of which she was a Past Worthy Matron and also a Past Chaplain. She is survived by her husband, J. William; five children: Chester, a local businessman, Marjorie (Mrs. Elsmore Friberg) of Minneapolis, Irma (Mrs. Abner Johnson) of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Norma (Mrs. Ed Stueland) of Dubuque, Iowa, and Beverly (Mrs. Jack McCollum) of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and four granddaughters. Seven sisters and brothers survive: Kristine (Mrs. Anton Evavold) of Ashby, Mrs. Alma Jacobson of Minneapolis, Emily (Mrs. Oscar Larson) of Evansville, Lillian (Mrs. Cyril Barnack) of Clitheral, Rudolph of St. Cloud, Hans of Boise, Idaho, and Edwin Lang of Ashby. She was prededed in death by her parents, one sister, Victoria, and one brother, Carl. Mrs. Nelson died at Northwestern Hospital on Tuesday, May 27, 1969, at the age of 74 years, where she had been a patient at intervals since February 18, 1969. She died in the same manner in which she lived; in peace, serenity and dignity, as her daughters commented. IN MEMORY OF MRS. IDA M.
