December 6, 1905 – February 18, 1983
Ida Miller was born December 6, 1905, of German descent in Odessa, Russia, and came to the United States in June, 1914 with her parents, August and Minnie (Schubbe) Miller, one older brother and two younger sisters. They lived on a homestead near Medora, North Dakota during the remainder of her school days. After graduating from high school, she taught country school for three years near Belfield, North Dakota. While a teacher there she met Emil Slavick and they were married on June 15, 1925. After thirteen years in North Dakota and thirteen years in Paynesville, Minnesota, they moved to Cottonwood, Minnesota, in 1951. She was a devoted wife and mother who always thought of her family before herself. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Hugo Miller and sister Elsie Knudson. She is survived by her youngest sister, Minnie Rische of McLaughlin, South Dakota; husband, Emil; three children, Allen of Willmar, Minnesota, Myron of San Diego, California, and daughter, Carol of Cottonwood; plus seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She died following a lingering illness at Weiner Memorial Hospital in Marshall, Minnesota, on Friday, February 18, 1983, at the age of seventy seven. IN MEMORY OF IDA M.
