Hulda Pauline Halvorson was born on November 18, 1906, to Peter and Emma (Svenson) Peterson, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Swede Home Lutheran Church. Along with her brothers and sisters, Hulda attended rural school. As a young woman she helped many families in their homes. She was known for her canning, baking, and gardening. She was a cook at the Clarkfield Schools and along with her husband, Helmer, was custodian at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank and Augustana Lutheran Church, both in Clarkfield, Minnesota. Hulda was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church, as well as the Ladies Aid and the Clarkfield American Legion Auxiliary. Hulda passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center, Clarkfield, Minnesota, on November 24, 1990, at the age of 84. She is survived by her three sons, Dennis and wife, Dorothy of Anoka, Minnesota, Charles and wife, Elizabeth of Anoka, Minnesota, Ralph and wife, Sheila of Huntington Beach, California; two daughters, Nancy and husband, David Lindall of Chino, California, and Betty and husband, Ronald Lysholm of Bloomington, Minnesota; son-in-law DeWayne Simpson of Clarkfield; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her two brothers, Ludvig of Clarkfield and Fredolph of Denver, Colorado; and three sisters, Bettie Thompson and Anna Hanson of Clarkfield and Ethel Corbett of Atascadaro, California. Hulda is preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence in 1939 and Helmer in 1977; daughter, Eunice Simpson in 1983; her parents; four brothers, Axel, Oscar, Alfred and Winfred; four sisters, Esther Lynner, Edith Olevson, Emma Thompson and Amalie Quady.
