Obituary

Howard Allen Hildahl was born on March 25, 1927, at Dawson, Minnesota, to parents Louis and Ann (Spletter) Hildahl. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Clarkfield High School, Clarkfield, Minnesota, in 1945. Howard enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 1945 and served in the Pacific on an LST 743, being involved in three Island invasions bringing in the Marines. Upon returning from the service, there were no jobs to be had. Howard worked at several jobs and then applied for school in Electronics in Redondo, California. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and worked for Central Tech for 1 1/2 years. He worked for WMET-TV in Bay City, Michigan. Returning home to Minnesota from Bay City, he was one of the first people to cross the Macken Island Bridge. He worked in Augusta, Georgia for JBF-TV for two years and was then transferred to Garden City, South Dakota, to KDLO, where he worked for six years. At all his places he worked as a Studio Engineer. Howard married Joan Ellingboe on June 7, 1969. They made their home east of Clarkfield. Howard worked at Consumers Co-op in Clarkfield, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Sons of Norway and the MN Valley Antique Power Association. Howard and Joan were moving to Willmar, Minnesota, following their farm auction. Howard passed away peacefully on Friday evening, September 28, 2007, one day before the auction, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 1 day. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Clarkfield; two stepsons: Brad Ellingboe of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Dean Ellingboe of Montevideo, Minnesota. He is also survived by five step-grandsons; one step-great granddaughter; two brothers: Marvin (JoAnn) Hildahl of Clarkfield and Rodney (Kathy) Hildahl of Boyceville, Wisconsin; sister Joyce (David) Offerman of Montevideo, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Debbie; brother LeRoy; and sisters Marjorie and Jean.
